Privacy Policy

Mintaka ("we," "our," or "us") is an independent personal finance application for iOS. We respect your privacy and designed Mintaka to minimize data collection. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle and how.

1. Core principle

Your financial data belongs to you. Mintaka stores your data locally on your device and synchronizes it through your private iCloud account. We do not operate servers that store, process, or have access to your financial data.

2. Information we do NOT collect

We want to be explicit about what we never touch:

• Your transaction details, account balances, budgets, or any financial data you enter
• Your Apple ID credentials or iCloud account information
• Your name, email address, or personal identity (Mintaka does not require account creation)
• Payment details for subscriptions (handled entirely by Apple)
• Your location, contacts, photos, or any other device data

3. Information we collect

Analytics data (Mixpanel): We collect anonymized usage analytics to improve the app. This includes app version, device type (e.g., "iPhone 15"), iOS version, feature usage patterns (e.g., "user opened Reports"), and screen interactions. Analytics data is not linked to your identity. No financial data, transaction amounts, account names, or category names are ever included in analytics. No advertising identifiers (IDFA) are used. Subscription status: Apple provides limited subscription information (whether your Mintaka Pro subscription is active, expired, or in a grace period) so we can unlock the appropriate features. We do not receive your payment method, billing address, or purchase amount.

Investment data API calls: If you use the Investments feature (Pro), the app makes requests to third-party financial data providers to retrieve stock quotes and market prices. These requests include stock ticker symbols only — no personal information, account balances, or holding quantities are transmitted.

4. Data storage and security

Your financial data is stored in two places, both under your control:

• On your device: Data is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework.
• In your iCloud account: Data syncs via Apple's CloudKit to your private iCloud container. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. We cannot access your iCloud container.

Mintaka does not maintain backups, copies, or mirrors of your data on any server we operate.

5. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal or financial data with anyone. The only third-party services that receive any data from Mintaka are:

• Apple (iCloud, App Store): For data sync and subscription management.
• Mixpanel: For anonymized usage analytics only.
• Financial data providers: For stock quote lookups (ticker symbols only, no personal data).

6. Your rights

Because your data lives on your device and iCloud — not on our servers — you have direct control:

• Access: All your data is visible and accessible within the app at all times.
• Export: Mintaka Pro includes CSV export to download your data.
• Deletion: Delete the app and remove data from iCloud to erase everything. We retain no independent copies.
• Rectification: Edit any transaction, account, category, or other data directly in the app.
• Portability: Export your data via CSV and import it into any other application.

These rights are available regardless of your location. For users in Mexico, these align with your ARCO rights under the Ley Federal de Protección de Datos Personales en Posesión de los Particulares (LFPDPPP). For users in the European Union, these align with your rights under GDPR. For California residents, these align with your rights under the CCPA/CPRA.

7. Data retention

We do not retain your data because we never have it. Your financial data exists only on your device and in your iCloud account. If you delete the app and clear your iCloud data, no copies remain anywhere.

Anonymized analytics data collected via Mixpanel is retained according to Mixpanel's data retention policies.

8. Children's privacy

Mintaka is not intended for anyone under the age of 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any information from minors.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Mintaka after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
