Terms of Service
Last updated: March 1, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Mintaka, a personal finance application available on iOS, iPad, and Mac. By downloading or using Mintaka, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Description of service
Mintaka is a personal finance application that helps you track income, expenses, budgets, and investments. The app stores data locally on your device and synchronizes through your private iCloud account. Mintaka does not operate external servers for data storage. Features and functionality may evolve over time.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old or the age of majority in your jurisdiction to use Mintaka. The app is not intended for minors.
3. Account and access
Mintaka does not require account creation. Access is tied to your Apple ID and iCloud account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Apple ID, device, and iCloud account. Mintaka is not responsible for unauthorized access resulting from compromised device or account security.
4. User responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy of any information you enter in the app. You must ensure your iCloud account is properly configured for data synchronization.
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the app
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose, including money laundering or fraud
- Attempt to circumvent subscription restrictions or feature gates
- Redistribute, resell, or sublicense the app or its content
5. No financial advice
Mintaka is a record-keeping and organizational tool only. The app does not provide financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Reports, forecasts, and investment tracking features display data you have entered or that is retrieved from public market data — they are not recommendations. Always consult a qualified professional before making financial decisions.
6. Subscriptions and payments
Mintaka offers a free tier and a paid tier (Mintaka Pro), available as an auto-renewable subscription through the Apple App Store.
- Billing: Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
- Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
- Cancellation: You can cancel anytime through your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain Pro access until then.
- Price changes: Subscription prices may change. Apple will notify you of any price changes before your next renewal, and your consent will be required for any increase.
- Refunds: Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with Apple's refund policies.
On downgrade from Pro: your data is preserved, but Pro features become read-only. You do not lose any data by cancelling.
7. Intellectual property
Mintaka, including its design, code, branding, logo, and content, is the intellectual property of its developer. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms and the Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA).
8. Data and privacy
Your financial data is stored on your device and in your private iCloud account. Mintaka does not operate external servers for data storage. For complete details on data handling, see our Privacy Policy.
9. Third-party services
Mintaka integrates with third-party services including Apple infrastructure (iCloud, App Store, StoreKit), analytics providers (Mixpanel), and financial data providers (for investment quotes). We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or privacy practices of these services. Market data provided through third-party APIs may be delayed or inaccurate — it is provided for informational purposes only.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Mintaka and its developer are not liable for:
- Financial losses or decisions made based on data displayed in the app
- Data loss resulting from device failure, iCloud service interruptions, or user error
- Inaccuracies in market data provided by third-party financial data services
- Service interruptions or feature changes
The app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. Your use of Mintaka is at your own risk.
11. Service availability
We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue any feature or aspect of Mintaka at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes through app updates or the website, but are not obligated to do so.
12. Termination
You may stop using Mintaka at any time by deleting the app. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access in cases of violation of these Terms. Upon termination, your data remains on your device and iCloud — we do not and cannot delete it remotely.
13. Dispute resolution
If you have a dispute regarding Mintaka, please contact us at hello@mintaka.money first. We will make good-faith efforts to resolve any issue directly. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be subject to the laws and courts described in the Governing Law section below.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Mexico. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Mintaka shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Mexico City, Mexico. If you reside outside Mexico, you may also be entitled to the protections of your local consumer protection laws.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Mintaka after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. For material changes, we will notify users through the app or website.
